RSS Primer
Really Simple Syndication or RSS is a way to automate web surfing. You can check for site updates without actually surfing to each web page. Websites that let you personalize the content, ( Google, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, etc. ) will let you add “news” from your favorite sites with RSS feeds. There are many types of RSS aggregators, feed readers and news readers available to collect and display RSS feeds. Many of the newer browsers ( Explorer, Firefox, Opera ) will allow you to view RSS feeds as well. To add the Extension Technology Resource Center to your browser:
If you are using Firefox’s Live Bookmarks, click the web feed icon
at the right side of the Location Bar. The “Add Live Bookmark” dialog will appear. Modify the name and “Create in” location, if you wish. Click “OK”.
If you are using Opra 8 or above, click the RSS button
and Opera will open the feed and ask you if you want to Subscribe to it — choose “Yes”. You can read your subscribed feeds in Opera by clicking on Feeds then Read Feeds.
In Internet Explorer 7 Click the orange RSS icon
in the tool bar and Explorer automatically displays any available RSS feeds on the page. Click “Subscribe to this feed” to add it to your favorites.
