Skype and what it can do for us ?

Well, people have been asking for ways to help with budget. I guess this would be one way that could help. Integrating Skype into your office. You can use it for conference calls with your team (as long as all had it installed) all free. You can use it for one on one video conferences ( all free, you will have to purchase a small webcam ). You can also call regular phones with it if you purchase Skype minutes.  Click Here for a small tutorial if you are thinking about using Skype in your office.

Learn about the newest tech tools for teaching, learning and research at workshops on clickers, web design, flash, easy PC video editing, social networking and more. Learn what these tools are and how to use them at the free workshops. The classes take place in the Science and Engineering Library SE, 175 W 18th Ave. Advanced registration is required. Twitter-ing at NETC

One reason to attend conferences is the opportunity to network with professionals who have interests similar to your own. The social networking application Twitter was a big part of this year’s NETC conference. Most folks don’t “get” Twitter at first, I know I didn’t, but I’ve been using it for about a year now and really enjoy the real time interaction with friends and co-workers.

To get some idea of how Twitter works, here’s a link to Twitter in Plain English from the CommonCraft Show.

Notes from NETC

Most of us are attending the National Extension Technology Conference in Raleigh this week. I’ve attended some really incredible sessions so far. Kansas State, U of Florida and others are doing some really cool things with Web 2.0 applications.

I’ve also learned that “new learners” (my term) are multi-taskers, they can be listening to a lecture, reading e-mail, discussing the class in Facebook, all at the same time. While their attention spans are short, they can consume much more information in that short time frame. Educators must design learning experience for these learners, and immerse them in the experience.
