So you need help Updating your Windows XP ? Below are the steps to help learn how to update your Windows XP
   
STEP 1
  • As always make sure you back your data up before you every start any of the following steps.
  • STEP 2
  • First thing to do is to find out what version and service pack you are currently running by right clicking on MY COMPUTER and left clicking on Properties
  •  
              
    STEP 4 Ok, once you have learned what version and service pack you are running, you will need to make some choices of what to do next. If you are running Windows XP with only Service Pack1, you might want to check with your tech person to see if you can get Service Pack 2 on a CD to install, specially if you have a slow Internet connect. If not, at the top of the last screen you seen some tabs, like below. Click on Automatic Updates..
     
    STEP 5 Once you click on that tab you should see something like this below. Check with your tech support on how you should set this. Some want you to download automatically and others want it to download but not install.
     
      Now that you know how to automatically set your updates, lets go ahead and make sure we are updated by going to your START button and choosing ALL PROGRAMS and up toward the top with be Windows Update. click that..
    STEP 6
       
       
    STEP 7 You will get a webpage that looks like this below. Again, check with your Tech on what your best option to click on here...
     
       
    STEP 8 Lets say we clicked on EXPRESS and started the update.. You will see a screen like below checking for updates.....
     
       
    STEP 9 The EXPRESS Install will install most all the updates and then tell you this like below....
     
       
    STEP 10 If you have now updated in some time, it will tell you that it has to install the Geniune Advantage Tool. This is now Microsofts way to track software that is not installed legally. So on the first update after it is complete you will get a window that looks like below....
     
       
    STEP 11 After all of that, please repeat Steps 6 thru 7 to make sure you have all the updates that Windows has to have to run correctly.
